Pentagram
Pentagram
The notes of the scale are represented with circular symbols set on the pentagram. It is a set of five horizontal lines and four interline spaces.
Notes and rests are written both on the lines and among the spaces.
Pentagram example 1
In a music text the dimensions of the pentagram can be quite varying. By measuring the distance existing between the extreme lines of a pentagram (between the first and the fifth line) we have found some measures ranging 0.50 cm to 0.75 cm and rarely measures over 0.85 cm (music for children).
Different measures can be even present in the same page.
The above-reported example shows a partition for piano and flute. The part for piano is marked with a double pentagram with a larger thickness than the flute. This because the pianist usually uses the upper part as a melody trace.
