Glissando
Glissando consists in swiftly moving throughout a scale. With some fixed pitch instruments, such as the fiddle, glissando is obtained by positioning one’s finger along the chord towards the bridge (or vice versa). In so doing, all the increasing (or decreasing) frequencies to the high are reproduced. In fixed chord instruments, such as the piano, glissando is obtained by creeping one’s fingers along the keyboard.
In coulisse instruments, such ad the bassoon, glissando is obtained by either extending or shortening the air column contained along the instrument tube. Graphic examples with glissando:
